As a ceramic artist Jo has always enjoyed the sculptural potential of clay over its functional application. Her passion for ceramics was re-ignited when she returned to art college as a mature student after studying three dimensional art as a youngster.
Since then she has continued to reflect varying influences and inspirations in her work, and has set up a ceramics studio/shop space in a Somerset market town.
Her work ranges from small buttons and beads to larger scale figurative pieces and narrative bowls. Recent work includes mermaids, sailors, fantastical beasts – quite a menagerie! Pieces are decorated with various mark-making tools and painted with a palette of underglaze colours.
Mythology, religion, natural history and the 17th
century Dutch Golden age are continuing sources of inspiration.
