China Jack Mosaics

Emily Lawlor graduated with a First Class BA Hons from the Public Art and Design degree at Chelsea Art College in 1994. Emily specialised in ceramics and mosaics at Chelsea. Since graduating, Emily has worked on public art commissions in hospitals, school and libraries in London and the South West as well as developing her studio practice. Emily has gained over 20 years experience devising and leading atelier-style workshops with diverse community groups.

Emily works from her Cotswolds studio, creating ChinaJack mosaics.  Emily works with vintage china and mixes it with unglazed ceramic and vitreous glass tesserae, combining texture, pattern and words to create undulating tactile surfaces using the direct method. Emily also produces ceramic tiles using the traditional Japanese Raku firing technique which involves subjecting the pieces to post-firing reduction (or smoking).
